The corona pandemic is still having many effects on our daily activities. At HTM, we see that the number of people currently travelling by bus or tram is significantly less than before the corona crisis. But even in these unusual times, we’re glad to hear what you think about travelling with HTM. What’s going well and what could be improved? So, will you soon be making a journey by bus or tram? If so, do please let us know what you thought of your journey and complete an evaluation form. You can also do this very quickly via the HTM travel information app.

Results of HTM journey evaluations for first quarter 2021

HTM Panel gives travelling with HTM 7.9/10

You complete a journey evaluation regularly. Together with those of other participants, this gives us insight into what you think of travelling with HTM. We received around 400 journey evaluations during the first three months of this year. The average mark you gave us was 7.9. Given the unusual situation we’re in, we’re very happy with this score. It gives us confidence that HTM is doing the right thing.

With an 8.2, the degree to which you feel safe during a journey with HTM is back to its level before the corona pandemic. We also see that the extra cleaning of the vehicles has helped to increase your evaluation of the cleanliness of the vehicle to an 8.0. Attention is needed particularly to the travel information at the stop; the score for this has dropped to 7.5. A number of digital travel information signs have been faulty, some for a while. Such as at Zoetermeer-Centrum West. These signs are on order and are scheduled to be replaced during the third quarter of 2021. In the meantime, please keep sharing your journey evaluations and observations with us.

Results from winter weather survey

In the period from 7 to 14 February, we had to deal with a longer period of snow. To ensure that our passengers could keep counting on the bus and tram, HTM ran a modified timetable. We asked you what you thought of our service and information provision. 542 panel members participated in this survey.

Four out of five participants were aware that HTM was running a modified timetable. One third had also actually made a journey. Their experiences were mainly longer waiting and journey times. For a quarter, the journey proceeded as in normal weather conditions. The journey information was not sufficient for everyone. HTM got 6.3 for this aspect. We heard that not all the communication was always up to date and clear. Nonetheless, HTM also gained a lot of appreciation because we continued to run under these extreme conditions. Points of improvement for the future are mainly to improve the communication and the clearing of snow from the stops.

Changes to HTM Service Points from 1 February

We have taken a number of measures to coordinate our service provision with the altered passenger demand due to the corona crisis. One of these measures is to change the opening times of the Service Points at Hollands Spoor, The Hague Central and Zoetermeer Centrum West stations. The Service Point at Delft station had to be closed on 1 February due to the severely reduced number of visitors.

Congestion indication at departure times in the HTM app

Since February, as well as departure times, the HTM app gives a congestion indication. This was already possible for online journey planning. Now you can easily choose a travel time that makes you feel most comfortable.

Tram 1 runs right to the coast again

The construction work on the route of tram 1 is complete after six months. With an entertaining activity, the OV (Public Transport) Stewards were on tram 1 during the week of 8 to 12 March to welcome passengers back aboard. They shared out a 'suitcase' filled with peppermints, from an appropriate distance and in a corona-safe way. The activity was well appreciated, and passengers are happy that they can again travel all the way to and from Scheveningen on tram 1.
park +beach

Park+Beach expanded with HTM Bike and Laakhaven and Malieveld garages

Since 1 April, it is possible to use Park+Beach to choose HTM Bike as well as the tram Passengers can park their car in the garages at New Babylon, Laakhaven or Malieveld. It is possible for a maximum of five people also to book the tram or HTM Bike to go to Scheveningen. Park+Beach is an initiative of The Hague municipality, Q-Park and HTM to reduce the traffic congestion in Scheveningen. The service is usually offered in the weekends; from 1 April you can book at Q-Park every day for the time being. You can travel by tram via a QR code, and with a discount code you receive 2x 1 hour credit via the HTM Bike app.

New card readers in bus and tram

Nieuwe kaartlezer
In January this year, HTM started to replace the public transport (OV) smartcard readers in the buses. After this, the red-beige, RandstadRail and R-Net trams will follow. HTM expects to have finished this extensive job by the end of 2021.

The current smartcard readers are at the end of their service life and are therefore being replaced. The new type of reader has a different appearance and has new functions. The device makes more methods of checking in and out possible. You will be able to check in not only with a public transport smartcard, but also with a barcode, mobile phone, chip card or credit card. But we’re not there yet. In the first instance, you can still only check in and out using your public transport smartcard. HTM is going to monitor the operation of the new card readers carefully.

HTM webshop

For some time, you have also been able to buy tickets from the HTM webshop on our website www.htm.nl. All tickets can be obtained using a few simple steps.

The new webshop is fully integrated into the website. Of course, you can still buy tickets at the usual familiar locations, such as the HTM Service Points. Interested? Have a look at our webshop now.

HTM Panel is looking for even more participants

We’re always looking for passengers who are happy to tell us their views on HTM. We’d like to hear from our customers about what could be better and what would be the best way to change things. Do you have family, friends or acquaintances who are at least 16 years old and who sometimes travel with HTM? Do please draw their attention to taking part in the HTM Panel: they can register via htmpanel.nl. Because every opinion counts!
